Beyond the Textbook: The Day 60+ Community Members Remembered Together
True education happens when knowledge becomes personal.

Recently, more than 60 members of our local homeschool community gathered together at Swell Retreat. They came to remember the significance of September 11 and to participate in a solemn, respectful flag-retirement ceremony.
For many of the children present, it was their very first time witnessing or learning how an American flag is honorably retired.
On this day, they didn't just open a history book or read about the concepts of honor, service, and sacrifice. They stepped out into the open air. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder. They listened intently. They lent their hands to help. Together, they watched a worn, well-loved flag receive the utmost respect it deserved.
Why These Moments Matter
As an Army veteran and a mother, these moments matter deeply to me.
Our children need regular opportunities to learn that freedom, community, and responsibility are inherently connected to one another. They need immersive experiences that help words like service and sacrifice transform from mere text definitions into living values.
A Legacy of Remembrance
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every family who joined us on the property. Your presence helped create an unforgettable day of quiet reflection and community connection.
By taking part in the ceremony, remembrance became something our children could see, feel, and participate in directly. It proved once again that our land isn't just a place for recreation—it is a space for character, legacy, and honoring those who paved the way.
